Camping- Two drive in campgrounds: Namakanipaio and Kulanaokuaiki
- Namakanipaio: Operated by the Hawaiian Volcanoes Lodge Company. Located 31.5 miles south of Hilo on Highway 11. The park is on a 4,000 foot elevation in a grassy area with eucalyptus and ohi'a trees. The Namakanipaio park has many different amenities like restrooms, running water, picnic tables, and barbecue pits. The maximum stay is 7 days for $15 a night. - Kulanaokuaiki: This park is a free stay available on a first come first serve basis, with no reservations or permits required. The stay cannot exceed 30 days per year or 7 days per month. Located 5 miles down from Hilina Pali road. Kulanaokuaiki has a elevation of 2,700 feet. The camp has no running water, no fires, and no dogs allowed. Although it makes up with picnic tables! and a vault type toilet. With 8 campsites 2 are wheelchair accessible. - Hawaiian Lodge Company: Has rustic cabins, sleeps 4 people, each cabin has a picnic table and an outdoor barbecue grill, and reservations are required. |
